In the spring of 501 the knight Cadry, Cynyr, Padern and Ennis of Salisbury gathered in the halls of Tisbury to feast and prepare for their journey to Rydychan. During the evening two strange guests arrive to ask sir Cadry for help. First the monk Pertoines who ask to accompany the knights on their mission to Rydychan. The young monk claims he’s travelling to Oxford to establish something he calls a ‘’University’’ and that the knights of Salisbury would make an excellent escort. Cadry glumly concedes to the monk's requests but had hardly drank a mug of ale before another visitor arrived: Lady Ninevh. Speaking in private with Cadry she tells him that his late wife, Brangwen, will never find true peace in the mound of Tisbury but that she must be buried in her homeland, deep in the dangerous Forest Sauvage. During the night Lady Ninevh and her handmaidens unearth the body of the late lady and everyone in the house claim they heard strange sounds and chanting. On the road the knight spring to action outside of Ambrius abbey when they see cowardly Saxons disguised as cymrii attacking and looting the most holy monastery. As the brave knight fend of the Saxons around the gate of the abbey the leader of the defenders, Sir Richard, plead the knights to follow a group of fleeing Saxon raiders, saying that they have kidnapped queen Ygraine and her daughter Morgan. Only Brother Pertoines stays behind as the knight’s ride into the hinterlands. Shortly they find the queen and her daughter in the midst of a ghastly scene. The women are encircled by Saxons torn limb from limb and when asked what transpired Morgan simply answers: ‘’They got careless.’’ Many questions went unanswered and the knight swear to Sir Richard that they will not speak of what transpired in the glade and that they will keep quiet about his plan to send Morgan to the north. Finally in Rydychan the knight, through the skilled tongue of Sir Ennis, avoid being captured and are instead taken to the city of Oxford where Pertoines leaves them. The ransom Sir Maelgwyn for £25 (an incredible sum even for such a famous knight) before setting off into the forest sauvage. The journey is perilous and fraught with great danger; from dreaded sauvage lions to treacherous fea-creatures but the knight finally come to several burial mounds deep in the forest. Here Sir Cadry parts with his beloved wife and cries to her spirit to look for him in the next life. It is only with the help of Sir Maelgwyn that the heartbroken knight finally leaves the haunted mounds. With the help of lady Ninevh the knight finally exit the forest many miles from where they entered; at the Castle Ease. Here they once more encounter The brown Knight of the Wilds whom Sir Padern duels to determine if he is to stay and feast in the marvelous castle or not. They also encounter Sir Garmond, the lord of the castle whom they haven’t met for several years. Finally the knights' journey homewards, only to find their lands raided.
