Seven years of Anarchy. Desperate times, a wasted land. Many important guests are gathering at Sarum, candidates for Maid Jennas hand. [[Cynyr]], [[Cadry]], [[Maelgwyn]] and [[Ennis]] meet refugees in Sarum, and agree to take them in. A grand feast, such as not seen in many years. King Nanteleods son [[Alain]] in attendance, as is Count [[Ulfius]], his vassal [[Blains]], Morgawse, wife of King lot. Sir [[Cador]] of [[Cornwall]] the mercenary. Lord [[Bedwor]], the former sheriff of Lluds hall. [[Pomponia]] with her half naked [[female]] slaves. Talk of dragons, [[Victus]] fought one, it killed two knights, some [[horses]] and flew away. The dragon that killed Segeurant probably went to sleep after eating such a great knight, greater than [[Cadry]]. [[Cadry]] rejoints; ”I’m still alive”. Mawlgwyn gives [[Lady]] [[Lilo]] [[Maelgwyn]] and [[Cynyr]] attempts to be curteous with [[Blains]], but he is suspicious and ill tempered, gives nothing but scorn back. Asks [[Cadry]] about Maid Jennas whereabouts, very chilly between them, insinuates that [[Cadry]] has had innapropriate relations with the maid in Pagan ways. [[Cadry]] invites him to speak plainly, and he declines, threatening that the [[alliance]] of Locrinus and relations with [[Ulfius]] will suffer if it is not he who marries [[jenna]]. Nothing comes of the talk but more ill will. [[Maelgwyn]] gives [[lady]] [[Lilo]] a sealed scroll, something important from [[Cadry]] to Gamonds son. The suitors are: Charles of Rydyschan, Gwendolyns son. [[Blains]], [[Jonathel]] of [[Dorsette]] and [[Alain]]. Sewell is up to his old tricks, stealing chickens, hiding in barrels. [[Maelgwyn]], always strict, shows the madman uncommon compassion. ”Sometimes the only reasonable act is to go insane”. [[Ulfius]] notes Cynyrs maneouvering for better relations and a closer [[alliance]] with [[Silchester]] regardless of who marries [[Jenna]], and commends him as a good man, one he would have a place for should he speak in [[Blains]] favour. [[Cynyr]] says he will not speak for [[Blains]], but will speak for [[Ulfius]] and [[Silchester]] regardless, to stand united against the [[Saxons]]. [[Lady]] [[Ellen]] gathers her closest advisors in her solar, and gathers advice on who should marry [[Jenna]]. The discussion is long and split, [[Maelgwyn]] and [[Elad]] are both for [[Blains]]. Most are for [[Alain]], and as [[Ellen]] leaves to tend to an urgent matter, the lords and knights agree to present a united front. [[Alain]] it is. When given the news [[Blains]] loses his temper, and his men draw towards violence. [[Ulfius]] orders him to put his arms down and not break hospitality, and in the chaos the man slips away. [[Cynyr]], watchful, sees him, and instantly follows. [[Blains]] races up the stairs to Jennas chambers and knocks the guards aside. [[Cynyr]], at his heels, dives into the room just as [[Blains]] yanks [[Jenna]] out of her bed and puts her at swordsedge, he is not fast enough to intercept. As [[Blains]] jumps backwards out the window, carrying them both to their deaths, he manages to dive forward and grab [[Blains]] who only falls after a struggle and stabbing his would be captor with a knife. [[Ennis]], meanwhile, has run to the side of the window, but is too distraught to help [[Jenna]], who is at deaths door. [[Cadry]] the strange, true to his epitah, produces a magical vial and pours it down Jennas throat. She might yet live. In the hall [[Maelgwyn]] has acted with a cool and practical head, gathering loyal men and taking [[Ulfius]] to a defensible cellar. High emotions abound, and murder could easily happen here, spelling disaster for the [[counties]]. Quick diplomatic thinking from [[Ennis]] and [[Cynyr]] sees Alains, having accepted the bethrothal, giving conditions to avoid war between his father and [[Ulfius]]. [[Blains]] head, Jennas survival, and a formal apology from [[Ulfius]], distancing himself from [[Blains]] and his line. [[Ulfius]] leaves, gathering his knights about him and hiring the mercenary [[Cador]] and his company. Sir [[Cynyr]] asks [[Cador]] to leave a man behind to send word, there may be more work for him this year.
