Conservator Corporis Sui, ex iussu numinis ipsius. - Inscription on a stone on the Shrine of Mars Under the ruse of deception [[Cadwallon]], [[Ceiwyn]], [[Edern]] and [[Bryn]] accepted a quest from High King [[Vortigern]] himself to fetch a lost roman banner. In the year of the Lord, 461, the Dragon Banner of Constantine the Great was found again. Having been kept hidden all these years by the descendants of the Second Legion of Augustus. Hidden in the [[forest]], at the secret shrine of Mars, the old soldiers kept the banner safe. Late one night, the most trusted advisors of the lord of [[Sorviodunum]] were summoned to a secret council. There, the lord asked them for advice in a most dire situation. [[Magnus]], an old bodyguard of Constantine, and his son Marius had showed up. They had information that the lost son of Constantine, [[Aurelius]], was still alive. Both [[Aurelius]] and [[Vortigern]] was looking for an old roman artifact, The Dragon Banner. The banner once flew with the armies of Constantine the Great when he ruled the british isles. The banner is sort of a symbol of unity and victory, and [[Vortigern]] wished to use it to rally [[the Supreme Collegium]] behind him. [[Aurelius]] on the other hand, wished to use to to rally the people and retake the British Isles from the usurper. After hard deliberations, the council advised Lord [[Sorviodunum]] to accept the quest from [[Vortigern]] to retrieve the banner, but then call for rebellion and instead deliver the banner to [[Aurelius]], who could use it to rally troops on the continent. [[Cadwallon]], [[Ceiwyn]], [[Edern]], [[Bryn]], [[Sigeberht]], and Marius rode out to retrieve the banner. Weeks later they arrived in Carleon, and after a short investigation they found a few old roman soldiers under an Oak north of Carleon. Suddenly, the soldiers attacked, and after a short skirmish, it turned out that the men claiming to be the roman soldiers were Vortigern’s men, and they had stabbed the real roman soldiers in the back. The trail lead into the [[forest]]. After [[Sigeberht]] had left the unit for his camp, the rest of the men continued into the [[forest]]. Late at night, they located the mysterious Shrine of Mars. A small unit of very old roman legionnaires were being attacked by a large group of ill-armed ruffians. [[Cadwallon]], [[Ceiwyn]], [[Edern]], [[Bryn]], and Marius knew they had a choice, either attack the [[romans]] and take the banner for [[Vortigern]], or attack the ruffians, and retrieve the banner for [[Aurelius]]. After only a few moments consideration, they attacked Vortigern’s men. An epic skirmish ensued, and roman tactics, and [[Cymric]] bravery at last defeated ore drove away the last warriors. After promising to help the [[romans]] deliver the banner to [[Aurelius]], they left together by boat to Southports. They met [[Aurelius]], who heartly welcomed them and his brother, for it turned out that all along, Marius had lied. He was not the son of [[Magnus]], but the son of Constantine the Just, and a [[prince]]. The banner was given to [[Prince]] [[Aurelius]], who handed it to his brother to hold in battles to come. The second legions old oath of protecting the banner was upheld, and they left to find their brothers in [[Lyonesse]]. [[Cadwallon]], [[Ceiwyn]], [[Edern]] and [[Bryn]] returned to their homes, knowing full well that war was coming. THey had betrayed their king for what they thought was right, but it was a betrayal no the less. They all feared for their families, lands, lords and gods. For war spared no one of blood. And it was coming…
