During a dusky and rainy evening our four knights were held up by a farmer who told them that something had happened with the bailiff of [[Hillfort]]. In the cabin of bailiff [[Tathal]] our four knights found only disarrangement, some blood and a strange stench, when the weather grew worse. They followed a trail leading to the [[forest]] of gloom, and noticed a menacing growl coming from within the darkness around. In a sudden flash of lightning they saw a figure on the hill of [[Wardour]] and set course towards it. Both [[Melkin]] and [[Cadry]] got the feeling that there was something familiar with the creature on the hill. Trying to talk to it the thing only growled back and suddenly took off for the [[forest]]. Following the [[redcap]] into the [[forest]], [[Melkin]] and [[Cadry]] decided that it must be the [[redcap]] that they had come upon once as children. In the knights search for the beast they suddenly came upon a group of four bandits sitting by a fire. [[Gamond]] took charge and commanded the men to put down their [[weapons]], when they did not heed his advice he attacked them. One man was taken prisoner and one man escaped into the [[forest]]. The missing man was soon found bleeding to death not far from the bandits’ camp. He had been attacked by the [[redcap]]. [[Melkin]] tried to save him, but for naught. The eyes of the bandit held a disturbing resemblance to Anwyn’s. Attempting to fight the [[redcap]] our four heroes tried to lure it out. Eventually [[Maelgwyn]] cut his hand, and the [[redcap]] struck drawn out by the fresh blood. The beast turned out to have been hiding below the earth and was drawing [[Maelgwyn]] down with it. The other three knights managed to save their friend, and decided to retreat since Maelgwyn’s wound turned out to be severe. The encounter with the [[redcap]] was thus left unsolved, and our knights never found bailiff Tathal’s body. As documented by brother Phillipos and sister [[Elaine]] of [[Ambrius]] Abbey
