As the First Tournament grows closer, a lot of strange new trends are starting to show up. New clothes from the continent are appearing, with trends, colors and new hairstyles. But most lords still wear the clothes from Anarchy.
“Fashion” is slowly becoming a concept. Buttons does not exist yet, neither does buckles accept for cloaks. Clothes are fastened with strings, hooks or threads. This makes getting dressed a time-consuming process.
Men’s fashion in 509
A lot of new trends are creeping in from the continent and from clothiers and tailors trying to out-do each other for the Tournament. Hats are becoming a trend again.
Latest trends in men's clothing:
Long robe-like tunics are the latest trend, even stretching below the knees. The most fashionable dress in colors of their heraldic shields.
Latest trends in men's hairstyles:
The latest trend are shorter, page-like haircuts. No particular color is more popular than any other.
Women’s fashion in 509
A lot is happening in the fashion-world among women. It's a mix of trends from the continent, Cornwall and from new trends coming directly from London. Overall the trends seems to go for natural colors and long flowing dresses.
Latest trends in women's clothing:
Long robe-like tunics are the latest trend, even stretching below the knees. The most fashionable dress in colors of their heraldic shields.
Latest trends in women's hairstyles:
Long hair, wavy. Not all women wear veils, some have started using new hat-like coifs.
Fashion in the Anarchy Period
During the Interregnum and the Period of Anarchy much of the nobility in Logres grow less rich. It's still miles away from the dirty lives of the commoners but even nobility spends less on clothes and more on wars and weapons. Expensive cloth and perfume is almost impossible to get a hold of. Many nobles dress what Uther's time would call "like well off commoners". Clothes from this period usually never go 'out of fashion' per say. But they do errode every every 5-10 years.
Roman Fashion in the Anarchy Period
In cities or at court men wear long tunics and at times a toga over it. The Romans industrious nature makes them survive the hard times of anarchy somewhat with their culture intact.
Women’s fashion changes more than men during the period, but to any significant degree. In cities or at court they wore long and open dresses in light fabric.
Roman slaves wear nothing or very little at all, although the hard british weather forces even the slaves to wear thick woolen clothes.
Cymric Fashion in the Anarchy Period
Since fine cloth is almost impossible to get a hold of most nobles wear practical and sturdy clothes. The richest dress like romans or keep clothes from the Uther Period but most dress in common brown and uncolored clothes.
Women wear simple dresses with belts and a simple piece of cloth over their head.
Men wear tunics and hoses or the same clothes they wear under armor.
Pictish "Fashion" in the Anarchy Period
Picts have it easy in the anarchy period. Both men and women usually wear nothing or little, as they always have.
Tribal culture have it that they often paint themselves or dress in colorful mud in wartime.
